Brain Teasers (March 2021)

If you’re looking to kill some time, we have a couple of logic puzzles for you today that will give your brain a good workout. If you’re not into brain teasers, and prefer to spend that time making something in the kitchen, then check out our delicious Curry Popcorn recipe instead.

Puzzle #1

Alice was walking in a forest and came across two strange beings, a lion and a unicorn.

The lion always lies on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. He speaks the truth on the other days.

The unicorn always lies on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. He speaks the truth on the other days.

Lion said: “Yesterday I was lying.”
Unicorn: “So was I.”

On which day did they say that?

Puzzle #2

Four people (A, B, C and D) want to cross a bridge, and they each take 1,2,5 and 10 minutes respectively to cross it.

The bridge is too old, so only a maximum of two people can cross it at a time, following the slower person’s pace. (e.g. if A and D cross the bridge together, it’ll take 10 minutes)

They have ONE single torchlight, which is needed for anyone to cross the bridge because it’s too dark.

What’s the fastest way for all of them to cross the bridge?

(Answers to both puzzles can be found at the end!)

Curry Popcorn Recipe

Not in the mood to solve puzzles? Learn to make some delicious curry popcorn instead. We made these Curry Popcorn in the beginning of our latest YouTube video and they’re honestly so addictive!

Curry Popcorn

  • ⅛ cup popcorn kernels
  • ½ tbsp ghee (or other high heat cooking oil)

  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • ¼ tsp salt

  1. Heat a saucepan over medium heat and add ½ tbsp ghee.
  2. When the ghee has melted, add ⅛ cup popcorn kernels. Mix well for the ghee to coat the popcorn kernels evenly.
  3. Cover the saucepan and wait a few minutes for the kernels to pop. Briefly shake the saucepan when the kernels are popping.
  4. Pour popcorn out immediately into a large bowl once popping stops.
  5. Pour seasoning over popcorn and give it a good toss. Enjoy!

As there isn’t a day where both the lion and the unicorn would be lying, at least one of them must have spoken the truth.

They both speak the truth on Sunday. However, the lion would then be lying in his statement, so it couldn’t have been a Sunday. That means one of them is lying, and the other is telling the truth.

If the unicorn was the one telling the truth, then it would have to be on a Sunday, but we already know that isn’t the case. Thus, the lion was the one speaking the truth, and that day is a Thursday.

The fastest way to get all four of them across the bridge is 17 minutes.

Send A & B across first. That’s 2 minutes.

Send A back. That’s 1 minute. (3 minutes so far)

Send C & D across. That’s 10 minutes. (13 minutes so far)

Send B back. That’s 2 minutes. (15 minutes so far)

Send A & B back across. That’s 2 minutes. (17 minutes in total)
