Go Outside... Without Going Outside.

After a long year, we’ve become so accustomed to wearing masks, social distancing, and staying home whenever possible. But, even the biggest homebodies among us need some time outside of the house.

Here are a few interesting links for those of you out there who are still stuck at home, and not by choice:

If working at home is a little too quiet for you...

and you’re sick of listening to the same beats on your Spotify playlist, then add some life to your room with this mix and match ambient noise generator. Choose from volume-adjustable ambient sounds ranging from waves crashing at the beach to a crowd at the coffee shop; it was surprisingly effective in improving our focus when left playing in the playground. Check out A Soft Murmur.

If you miss the sounds of nature...

There’s something about being in nature that feels so relaxing. If you’re like HL, then you’ll find Sounds of the Forest to be utterly fascinating. Timber Festival, an annual UK-based celebration of forests and trees, created SotF after the festival had to be canceled due to COVID-19. Grab some headphones and enjoy these top 10 most listened to forest sounds.

If you need a change in scenery...

Maybe being stuck at home isn’t the problem, you just wish that you could enjoy a different view from time to time — a view that’s not whatever’s outside your window. WindowSwap allows you to open a new (browser) window to a view of an actual, physical window from another part of the world.

Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe (Super Easy)

Being stuck at home is a lot better with some dessert. Can we interest you with a fast, super easy to make, and delicious chocolate mug cake?

Chocolate Mug Cake

INGREDIENTS (Serves 1)

  • 1/4 cup almond flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix all the ingredients together and pour the batter into a mug.
  2. Microwave on high for about 45 seconds, or until cake looks firm but slightly fudgy.
  3. Enjoy with toppings of choice!

Notes: HL likes to undercook the mug cake slightly as residual heat will firm it up further even after it’s been removed from the microwave. The timing depends on your microwave, so experiment with it!
